COURSE SUMMARY

PUASAR024 – Undertake Road Crash Rescue covers the competency required to gain access to and extricate entrapped casualty/s from vehicles travelling on the road such as cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks and semi-trailers while minimising the potential for further injury and preserving the integrity of evidence.

This unit requires the responder to access entrapped casualty/s using a range of techniques and to operate specialist equipment to undertake the rescue.

This unit applies to a member of a rescue team or those who are working in a mine rescue unit working as part of an Emergency Rescue Team.

This unit may be customised to suit a range of road crash rescue incidents based on an organisational risk profile.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 2 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)
  • Face to Face – 36 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Refresher training – 33 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates
WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants in road crash rescue require a level of physical ability to be able to physically gain access to and extricate entrapped casualty/s from vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks and semi-trailers.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:

  • Prepare and respond to road crash rescue
  • Establish and maintain rescue scene safety
  • Manage casualties
  • Remove casualties from entrapment
  • Conclude road crash rescue operations which will encompass, apply emergency care practices, apply relevant road crash rescue techniques, apply scene management procedures, undertake initial (ongoing) scene assessment, use rescue equipment in a range of situations, wear appropriate PPE, work in a multi-agency environment and work in teams

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
