COURSE SUMMARY

PUASAR022 – Participate in a Rescue Operation covers the competency required to participate in rescue operations as a member of a rescue team. The application of this unit in the workplace covers a wide range of rescue and environmental situations, which may include industrial, rural, bush and extreme environmental conditions.

There are also specific industries that require additional training; such as emergency services.

The individual will work under supervision in a team but may be responsible for completing individual tasks relating to a rescue. This unit underpins specialist rescue operations.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

This unit is targeted to those who are working in a mines rescue unit working as part of an Emergency Rescue Team.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 12 months from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)

• Face to Face – 7 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
• Blended delivery – 6 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 1-hour self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
• Refresher training – 7 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates
• Refresher blended delivery – 6 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 1-hour self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course

WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants are to be assessed as physically capable of working under supervision in a team but may be responsible for completing individual tasks relating to a rescue in a range of simulated and real locations.

PREREQUISITES

• PUAEME001 – Provide Emergency Care; or
• HLTAID002 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:

• Select and don PPE
• Protect the casualty
• Undertake safety precautions
• Understand ropes and knots
• Understand, select and use rescue equipment
• Perform a rescue operation of a person in a dangerous situation – preparation and risk assessment/perform rescue/conclude operations as part of a team
• Complete an incident report

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
