COURSE SUMMARY

HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and first aid code of practice and applies to those who may be required to provide first aid, CPR and oxygen in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Simulated real-life situations will be used to develop the skills and knowledge for using and maintaining specialised equipment for the provision of first aid, resuscitation, and oxygen therapy. 

Instruction on first aid and CPR will be provided, as well as treatments specific to advanced conditions, such as inserting an appropriate basic airway adjunct, using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding, and administering oxygen safely at the correct flow rate.

The course covers recording casualty condition, conveying incident details, completing workplace incident documentation, and debriefing for recognising areas for improvement, psychological impacts, and seeking help as required.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 12 months from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DURATION (ONLINE)
  • Online training with face to face practical assessment – 3 hours face to face assessment with the addition of 3 hours of self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants must be physically able to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life. Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

For the online delivery, all self-paced online learning must be completed prior to attendance at the face to face practical assessment.

PREREQUISITES
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Performance tasks – The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:

  • Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen 
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenario:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (including the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
  • Perform CPR on an infant

Documentation – The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:

  • Complete an incident report

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
