HLTAID005 – PROVIDE FIRST AID IN REMOTE SITUATIONS – OPTION 1

Course Summary

This course is designed to give the skills and knowledge to workers who may be required to provide a first aid response and emergency life support to a casualty in a remote and/or isolated situation in locations where emergency services may not be able to respond for extended periods of time.

Course Content

All content from Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) plus:

  • Evacuation methods
  • Transportation procedures
  • Prolonged casualty care
  • Cold and crush injuries
  • Dehydration and extremities of heat and cold
  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Cardiac emergencies
Inclusions
  • Remote Area First Aid Manual
  • All training resources (manikins, face shields, bandages, gloves, AED etc)
  • A4 Certificate
Delivery

This course has pre-course study. Students also attend 10 hours of face to face training.

A refresher course is available for those who hold a current Remote Area First Aid certificate. There is no pre-course study to complete. Students attend the 10 hours of face to face training.

Qualification

A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in HLTAID005 – Provide First Aid in Remote Situations will be issued to all successful participants.

Recertification

Participants are required to recertify every 3 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

Prerequisites

Participants must be aged 14 years or older

*Please note that it is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.
