COURSE SUMMARY

This course is designed for those people who may be required to provide first aid in a workplace or community setting. This course will give you the skills and knowledge to provide first aid, life support, resuscitation and management of the casualty/casualties.

Please note that it is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

COURSE CONTENT
  • Assessing an emergency situation
  • Infection control
  • Airway and breathing management, including choking
  • Head, chest and abdominal injuries
  • Bleeding and burns
  • Seizures and shock
  • Medical conditions such as epilepsy, cardiac arrest, chest pain, diabetes
  • Chest pain and stroke
  • Allergic reactions
  • Bites and stings
  • First Aid for minor wounds
  • Near drowning
  • Hyperthermia and hypothermia
  • Fractures, breaks and spinal injuries
  • Poisoning and toxic substances
  • Performing CPR
  • Understanding and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Reporting and recording an emergency
  • General WH&S and legal issues
  • Handover of the incident

DELIVERY

This course is delivered as a mixed mode of pre-course study and 8 hours face to face training. For students who are completing a refresher and hold a current Provide First Aid certificate, there is no pre-course study-only 8 hours of face to face training.

QUALIFICATION

A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid will be issued to all successful participants.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to recertify every 3 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

PREREQUISITES

Participants must be aged 14 years or older
