HLTAID002 – PROVIDE BASIC EMERGENCY LIFE SUPPORT

Course Summary

This course teaches the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course is developed for exisiting workers in the industry who may be require to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

There are also specific industries that require additional training such as childcare workers, school teachers and other industries.  

Course Content

All of the content from HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, plus:

  • Infection control
  • First Aid for minor wounds
  • Control of severe bleeding
  • Airway management
  • Allergic reactions
  • Considerations when providing CPR
  • Performing CPR
  • Understanding and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Reporting and recording an emergency
  • Principle and procedures for first aid management of allergic reactions, Anaphylaxis and cardiac conditions; including chest pains 
  • General WH&S and legal issues
Delivery

Blended mode:

  • Completing 1 hour of unsupervised pre-course study and 
  • 3 hours of face to face training and assessment
Assessment

Multiple choice question paper covering the following:

  • State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and workplace procedures
  • Legal, workplace and community considerations
  • Considerations when providing CPR
  • Principle and procedures for first aid management
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Responding to first aid scenarios and task demonstrations for Adult CPR, Infant CPR and Defibrillation, verbal reporting, debriefing and evaluating, anaphylaxis and autoinjector, asthma and medication, choking, turning a casualty on his/her side, bleeding control and shock
Qualification

A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in 

  • HLTAID002 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

will be issued to all successful participants.

Recertification

Participants are required to recertify every 3 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

*Please note that it is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on an adult and infant CPR manikin placed on the floor and able to follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
