HLTAID001 – PROVIDE CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION

Course Summary

This unit of competency will give you the skills and knowledge to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
This course is designed for people who work in education, mining, hospitality, tourism, community and aged care, child care, school teachers, emergency services and other community and workplace settings who may require CPR training as recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council.

Course Content
  • Recognising and assessing a cardiac emergency situation
  • Airway and breathing management
  • Performing CPR
  • Understanding and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Reporting and recording an emergency
  • General WH&S and legal issues
Delivery

Blended mode:

  • 1 hour of unsupervised pre-course study and
  • 3 hours of face to face training and assessment
Assessment

Multiple choice question paper covering the following:

  • State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and workplace procedures
  • Legal, workplace and community considerations
  • Considerations when providing CPR
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Responding to first aid scenarios and task demonstrations for Adult CPR, Infant CPR and Defibrillation
  • Managing infection control requirements
  • Responding appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • Demonstrating safe manual handling techniques
  • Managing the unconscious breathing casualty
  • Providing a verbal report of the incident
Qualification

A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in 

  • HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

will be issued to all successful participants.

Recertification

Participants are required to recertify every 12 months from their completion date to maintain currency.

*Please note that it is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on an adult and infant CPR manikin placed on the floor and able to follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
