COURSE SUMMARY

FWPCOT2259 – Cut Materials with a Hand-Held Chainsaw teaches the skills and knowledge required to prepare and cut timber and polymer materials with a hand-held chainsaw. This unit includes preparing for work, cutting materials, maximising volume and quality of recovery material and performing routine operator maintenance.

This unit applies to those who cut materials with a hand-held chainsaw in a variety of work settings including a construction, sawmills, forest product manufacturing facilities, timber yards, horticultural environments, construction, polymer processing and other manufacturing settings.

RECERTIFICATION

Participants are required to re-certify every 3 years from their completion date to maintain currency.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an ERT Rescue Group Pty Ltd training facility.

COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)
  • Face to Face – 4 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Refresher training – 4 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates
WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS

No work placement arrangements will be required as part of this course

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COURSE?
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios – The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:

  • Preparing for operation – (Identify all legislative, organisational and job requirements)
  • Selecting, checking and using PPE, tools and equipment
  • Setting up for operations – risk management, prepare the area for cutting
  • Conducting operations – following WHS and safe work procedures
  • Safely cutting different types of material – using different cutting techniques
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Finalising operations – clean up and dispose of waste

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

 

*Please note that ERT Fire & Rescue supplies all equipment necessary for you to undertake your training. ERT Fire & Rescue always recommend and encourage you to bring along your own equipment. Trainee’s must wear appropriate clothing that will get dirty and enclosed footwear is essential.
